Falling uncomfortably in tone between the thoughtful "Syriana" and the action theatrics of "24" this falls flat on both ends of the political thriller spectrum.

It's not thoughtful because the script is kind of underwritten and confusing with both Cheadle and Pearce's characterization coming off as phony, and as an action thriller your going to have to be content with a few CGI explosions and pretty mild shootouts.

Apparently Steve Martin yes that one wrote the story for this movie but the only thing I can find about it is an IMDB trivia listing that says Martin came up with while filming "Bringing Down the House"!?

Incredibly underrated thriller that attempts to help the audience understand two different takes on religious ferver, and stresses the dangers of misinterpreting your religion to the point of harming others.

It's a taut little thriller with a few twists and turns. Whether it's an accurate depiction of Muslims both devote and those who misinterpret it to the point of terrorism I don't know.

But I do know that it tries to help us understand both, and understanding someone you don't agree with is the first step towards helping them.

It takes some creative and dramatic liberties, but it's meant to be used as a conversation starter, and at that it excels.

The truth is complicated, as are my feelings on Jeffrey Nachmanoff's thriller, Traitor , starring Don Cheadle.

The film comes from the most unlikely of people, Steve Martin, who birthed the idea and helped Nachmanoff write the script, and it's not the kind of film we normally associate him with.

The idea behind the film really is quite good though, it's just the execution that really hinders it. What could be a seriously thrilling, topical, and important film ends up being a long, drawn out, and sadly unexciting film that houses a few great performances, and an excellent score.

I don't know. Traitor ended up playing as an interesting pair with Patriots Day. Writer-director Jeffrey Nachmanoff spends a lot of time developing these two men and showing the viewer their philosophies so that we can understand why they are doing the things they do, even if we don't agree with their motivation.

It's solid character development. The FBI agents investigating these two radicals played by Guy Pearce and Neal McDonough are far less refined, which only becomes a problem as the movie begins to wrap up.

Nachmanoff rushes to an ending too quickly and too neatly, leaving a product that is just shy of a genuinely satisfying experience. But up to that point, Traitor features an engaging plot and Cheadle's performance is reliably strong, so I count it as a win.

They were still cranking this shit out at the rate that Burger Kings were going up in the Green Zone. This movie can be the definition of a regular police drama, with nothing too good or too bad to tip it in any direction.
